Soft191 Shredder provides a fast way to securely delete files and erase free disk space. Data is overwritten (1 to 10 times) prior to files being deleted.

The program resides in the system tray, and includes a drop zone which is a small icon that can be moved around the screen and to which you can drag drop files/folders for shredding/deleting. The drop zone can be turned on or off.

Soft191 Shredder has two main purposes: erase/shred a file and wipe free disk space.

Shredding a file means that its content is firstly overwritten (wiped) and then the file is deleted. You can choose which files to delete by using the File and Folder buttons, or you can paste a list of existing file and folder names from the Windows clipboard using the Clipboard button.

Wiping the free space on a disk means that any data which still resides in that free space, albeit marked free, can be properly and securely deleted by overwriting it. As you may know, simply deleting a file via Windows does not actually delete the content of the file. Instead, the space that file occupied on the disk is simply marked as being free, and may exist for a long time until another file is allocated that space (or part of it).

Soft191 RAM Defragmenter is an easy to use software application that allows you to gain a few extra MB of RAM when you are running low of memory.

It is essentially a memory defragmenter which will allocate some RAM, making Windows swap all data in RAM to the swap file. The memory is then released, so Windows will restore the data to RAM without any fragmentation.

The program resides in the system tray, and can be started automatically when Windows starts. You can defrag memory from the system tray pop-up menu if you want to.

It also displays information about RAM, the page/swap file and user-address space allocation. There are two active gauges which display real-time memory and CPU usage.

You can make the program defragment RAM when the RAM drops below a certain MB value (specified in options). This way you can have the program start up with Windows and run in background automatically. Dont make this value too high as defragmentation will occur repeatedly, slowing down your computer. If you have 1GB of RAM, set the value to around 150 or 200 MB. It may take some experimentation on your part to find a figure best suited to your computer.
